A Taste of Italy
Italian Garden is Wichita’s home of the fresh pasta

By Kassandra Kania

If you’re looking for an authentic Italian meal in Wichita, look no further than Italian Garden Ristorante. The restaurant’s success lies in its fresh pasta made on the premises daily. But that’s not its only commitment to quality: “Everything is freshly made,” says owner Mike Issa. “Seafood is flown in every other day. Beef is aged on the premises, and we get one of the highest grades of beef.” Even the sauces are made from scratch.

Italian Garden opened its doors in 1987 and serves customers from two locations in Wichita. Being a family-owned business makes all the difference, says Issa. “We strive to offer a personal touch in our dining room, and we take feedback from the customer to improve our establishment.”

The restaurant’s menu features a selection of pasta, beef, seafood, and chicken dishes as well as daily seafood and beef specials. Diners can enjoy ethnic and regional dishes such as ravioli stuffed with a seafood mix and herb cheese, served with creamy sun-dried-tomato sauce, and chicken stuffed with prosciutto ham, provolone, and asparagus, served with creamy caper sauce. Homemade lasagnas are a favorite among diners, says Issa, and the house Italian salad and garlic bread are also popular. In addition, customers can choose from a variety of pizzas or create their own pizza choosing four toppings.

An extensive wine list offers wine sold by the glass as well as a selection of Italian specialty drinks, including grappa and lemon cello. Diners might choose to start their meal with an appetizer, such as calamari, mussels napoli, or stuffed mushrooms, and end it with a cappuccino and one of the restaurant’s specialty desserts, such as homemade tiramisu or crème brulee.

This month, Italian Garden is introducing a new menu with Mediterranean flair. “We added new recipes to the pasta dishes with Mediterranean herbs and flavors,” says Issa, “and we’re introducing a lot of pesto, pine nuts, and sun-dried tomatoes.”

The restaurant’s quiet, relaxing atmosphere makes diners feel at home. “When you have an owner running the restaurant, he calls everyone by name,” says Issa. “He makes sure the food and ambience meet expectations because he really cares about the establishment.”

Italian Garden is open Monday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The restaurant offers catering services for 10 to 1000 people and delivers all over town and the surrounding areas. Prices range from $4.50 to $9.50 for lunch and from $9.50 to $19 for dinner. A children’s menu is available.
